Another Friday, More Finished Blocks

This week was moderately productive. I finished several more blocks for the Oregon Baby quilt, including two feature blocks. There are now four features finished, except for any finishing embroidery touches.

I made the western meadowlark and baby rabbit blocks.

Some additional remarks about the rabbit: The original photo was of a hybrid rabbit – white fur and brown patches, pale blue eyes. I’ve been observing many wild rabbits that hop about the garden here in my new home. Their coloration is more earthy and the eyes appear jet black. So that is how I made this rabbit. Also, the poor bunny has no nose or mouth yet. Those details will be added with embroidery floss. And maybe a few whiskers to boot.

Now when I line up the completed blocks, the quilt looks like this:

Two rows out of five. The big picture is coming into focus.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you are enjoying your long week-end (U.S. readers) Please drop me a word or two about your current project. I’d love to know what feeds your creative impulses.

One of six children, I was raised by a busy mom, who instilled in me a love of fabric. Though I learned to sew and knit at a young age, it was the arrival of my first grandchild that pushed me into action. A long-time knitter, I am now ready to explore all things fiber.

  1. The two rows together are pretty. The bird block may be my favorite so far.

Keeping projects small here, too much work to do anything complicated. Fully finishing an embroidery piece from several years ago.

  2. That bunny is just perfection! Beautiful! This is going to be so impressive once it is completed! I ordered the yarn for my new grand babies blankets… it arrives today! I am excited to cast on!

  3. The quilt is taking shape and looking so nice. I love the animals – the bunny is adorable. I just finished up a second mini quilt, and now I’m playing with some scraps while I try to settle on a layout of some larger quilt blocks hanging out on my design wall.

  4. Your quilt looks more beautiful as you are going! The meadowlark and rabbit are so expressive. And the strip-pieced blocks really complement the feature blocks.
I am working on a mermaid sweater and possibly starting a cardigan as well. I love finding color combinations that work well together and coming up with details and finishing touches that really make a knitted item my own.
